The magic of eye creams

The magic of eye creams

The skin around your eyes is actually ten times thinner than the rest of your face. And since it’s so fragile, it’s usually the first part that shows aging signs. It’s in constant motion so it goes through a lot every day, causing wrinkles and fine lines. And that’s why eye creams are your go-to. You might ask, aren’t eye creams just moisturizers in smaller packages? The answer is no because eye creams are made specifically for the delicate skin around the eyes, so they tend to be thicker. They contain more oil than other facial creams and many effective ingredients to fix the problems that may occur around the eyes.

So when exactly should I start using an eye cream?

When it comes to skincare, the earlier, the better. In fact, people start adding eye cream to their daily skin routine in their thirties after they see slight creases on their eyes’ outer corners. But even before you see a wrinkle, you can start as early as your twenties. That’s because the best results come from early prevention!

But what kind of eye cream is right for me?

Choosing the right eye cream for you is essential. You should know what you are actually using it for and what type of skin you have. Here we have the most common problems for the area around your eyes and what creams are most suitable for:

Dry under-eye skin:

If you have dry skin, the area around your eyes is more likely to flake and suffer from severe dryness. Try using a cream that is thicker in consistency than your regular moisturizer to hydrate that spot.

Dark circles and puffiness:

Puffiness is a buildup of fluids and blood under the eyes. And if you are trying to get rid of it, you should try using a product with retinol or vitamin C. These ingredients will reduce the appearance of dark circles and puffiness around your eyes. Some studies show that cold temperatures can be effective in treating puffiness. That’s why we also recommend you refrigerate your eye cream!

Fine lines and wrinkles:

Fine lines and wrinkles come from both sun damage and the fact that your skin produces less collagen as you age. Collagen helps maintain the skin’s flexibility. Moreover, antioxidants can help your facial skin look more youthful, glowy, and bright. And that also applies to the under eyes area. So pick and eye cream that contains: Retinol or vitamin C  to soften the appearance of fine lines!

All skin types:

Sun exposure is the number one source of damage to your under-eye area. Make sure to wear at least SPF 15 every day, but ideally an SPF 25 or higher. Also, wearing sunglasses that protect from UVA and UVB rays is a must!

Additional advice:

We recommend applying any eye cream after cleansing and before sunscreen. For complete and adequate eye care, you should follow these three simple yet important steps:

1-  Remove all traces of eye makeup at the end of each day in order to prevent irritation and inflammation.

2- Always apply eye cream after cleansing for treatment and hydration.

3- Wear daily sun protection.
